Carolyn Areffi actually knew and worked with Alice. She knows the
importance of listening to patients and speaks out for them when no
one else will. Carolyn has been described as placing the patient’s
needs first and foremost while serving as the patient’s advocate.
Carolyn has been described as working long hours even if it means
staying over her shift and taking care of her patient. A hospital
employee was taken care of by Carolyn and that employee remarked
that due to the comfort and expertise of Carolyn they fully
recovered.
Before Carolyn was hired now 26 years ago at RCH, she practiced her
nursing skills in a number of states on the East Coast. She
graduated from a diploma program in Oklahoma in the 1960’s and
volunteered in Europe. She has a Bachelors of Science Degree in
Health Services and has worked in a variety of departments at RCH
including: Med/Surg, ICU, DOU, 3400 and the Cardiac Cath Lab. She
loves to set up her garden each year, although she fights with the
family cats to keep the garden viable.
