Employee of the Month February 2003

Joann Sousa, pre-op educator, has been chosen as February's employee of the month. Joann began working for Redlands Community Hospital in 1970 as a nurse's aid when she was 19 years old.

She moved on to work in the surgery recovery room for several years before she created the pre-operation department more than 10 years ago.

"She wanted to gather all of the patient's labs, E.K.G.s, chest x-rays, health histories and tell them what to expect so they are not so scared," said Barbara Meins.

Barbara, who is also a pre-op educator, also noted that Joann has a way about her that puts people at ease and makes them more confident. She has a good ear for listening.

"The hospital is lucky to have her as an employee and I'm lucky to have her as a partner," said Barbara. "It's like working with my best friend every day."
