Employee of the Month

Chikako Gray, CNA

November 2003

Chikako Gray was chosen as the November employee of the month for her hard work and high ethical standards.

"She consistently treats the patients with kindness and concern. She is able to initiate patient care without being asked and always does extra nice things for the patients," several of her co-workers wrote in her nomination. "Chikako often works 16 hours straight when there is a shortage of staff. She keeps a smile on her face the entire time and looks for (additional) work to do."

"Chikako maintains excellent rapport with elderly patients, anticipates their needs and is able to do the small things that create comfort," Carolyn Areffi noted and added, "She truly fits the acronym of SMILE. I always hear her introducing herself to every patient."

Tricia Baum, R.N., also nominated Chikako, stating, "Everyone is always happy to work with her, and every employee should strive to be like her."

Chikako was an R.N. in Japan. She has worked for the hospital as a CNA since 2001 and is preparing to take her R.N. boards this spring.
