WHAT DO HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS DO?

Listen, listen, listen to concerns of patients & families
Keep the patient company, write letters, read aloud to patient
Play music
Provide support
Run errands
Do light chores around the house
Provide minimal physical care & assistance to patient
Provide reiki treatments
Contact families during the year after their loss to see how they’re doing.

HOW DOES SOMEONE BECOME A HOSPICE VOLUNTEER AT RCH?

Express interest!
Register & Attend a series of 20 hours of training classes at RCH held in Spring & Fall
Complete an interview with Hospice Coordinator of Volunteers; agree to a background check
Provide three references
Complete required Orientation
Complete annual TB test, showing negative outcome.

WHO ARE VOLUNTEERS?

Community adults; Men and Women (18 & up) who are caring and supportive
Emotionally stable
Good at listening
Will make a years’ commitment to serve
Willing to drive to patient’s homes
Able to give minimal patient assistance
